Wanted to have Thai food with bigger portion? Come to SOI55 at SS15. Thai cuisine that occurred in the middle of nowhere.

SOI55 Thai Kitchen @ss15

On Wednesday, my friends and I decided to have lunch at Thai restaurant at SS15. It is located in the middle of car workshops and laundry places. It was like you never know that they will have a restaurant here.

The menu and order form

Soi 55 Thai Kitchen or could be called as SOI Ha Ha Thai Kitchen (Number ‘5’ is pronounced as ‘Ha’ in Thai) has operated since November, 2016. Since then people started to come to that place to dine. The first branch is located at Solaris Mont Kiara. Looking at such popularity they decided to open another branches. Currently, there are 3 branches now which located at Mont Kiara, SS15, and Bukit Jelutong.

The branches

We took a Grabcar to get there. It wasn’t hard to reach this restaurant, besides there are parking outside as well for those who wanted to drive there but just don’t come during peak hours. We arrived there at 11.45am.

Me, posing in front of the entrance

It seems that we were their first customers for that day. The restaurant was painted in black color, because of that few of us rarely notice that it was a Thai restaurant. There were 2 small elephant displays made out of steel that greeted us from outside. By the moment we entered, one of staff has welcomed and offered us for a table of 3. The waiter was friendly and responsive, it made us comfortable to dine in there.

the setting inside the restaurant

They have a great space that is suitable for groups and also outdoor seating for guest that wanted to enjoy view outside. The decorations are simple yet stylish. The orange light bulbs are hanging on the ceiling like how the current trend is. Tables are big enough to order many food on one visit. Most people would like to dine in this kind of settings.

the promotion for free tomyum
Lunch Promo
Family Promo

They also provided few promotions in this branch such as lunch promo, big family meal, and free Tomyum. Personally, I think it is a great idea for a restaurant that provides such promo since nowadays, guest wanted to have an affordable lunch or dinner and also value for money.

Appetizer Menu
Stir-fried Menu
Soup & Curry Menu

We found the extensive menu full of various Thai dishes you could imagine (started from appetizer, soup and curry, fish, stir-fried, salad, rice and noodle, to dessert and beverages). It would take some time to taste all of the authentic Thai food. The menu design is simple and easy to understand. They provide some additional information and pictures to help customers on deciding their food.

It took a few moments for us to decide what we wanted to eat. Started from appetizer, main items, soup and dessert. The price that stated at the menu is quite affordable, ranging from RM10 to RM30 for the food. For the drinks and dessert, the price started from 2.9 above. The price is exclusive 10% service charge and 6% GST. Besides that, their ingredients are certified halal.

Free Seafood Tomyum

After a while, we wrote our order in the order chit and handed it to the staff. The service was good, even though we didn’t ask much questions when we ordered our meal because somehow we already know how Thai cuisine looked like. We were entitled to get a free seafood tomyum because we spent more than rm50 for the total bill

Our lunch for that day

We’ve ordered fried fish cakes (RM15 for 5pcs), Stir-fry chicken with thai basil leaf (RM20), Sweet sticky rice with mango (RM12), White rice (RM2) and Thai milk tea (RM6.9).

Thai Milk tea

Our drinks came first, their signature Thai milk tea was heavenly milky, not too sweet and just nice for me. After a while our meals started to be served one by one on our table, almost our orders has arrived but our appetizers was missing. We asked the staff to check on it. After that, it took about 30 minutes to be served, which made us a bit impatient because it was appetizer and supposed to be out first. As a result, the other food turned cold and not as enjoyable as we expected. The taste of the food generally was okay. Their stir-fry chicken with thai basil was flavorful and spicy. And the food that I liked the most was their fish cake

Me, having lunch at SOI55
My friends and 1 enjoyed our time during lunch

The portion of the food were quite large for such price. Three of us were so full that we won’t be able to walk after that. For me, it was totally value for money and would come back for another round. Mostly in this branch, the crowd is during dinner time and most of them are a group of students or family.

The total bill that we paid was RM85 for all the food. After paying, the staff said thank you and wishes us to come back again next time.

The operating hours is 11am to 11pm daily. They accepted cash, debit and credit for payment method. For UOB card holders, they will received 15% off from the total bill with minimum spend of RM50. They also provide reservation, delivery and take out services.
